Aaron Nielsen

Air Force Institute of Technology
Autonomy and Navigation Technology Center

Dr. Aaron Nielsen is a research assistant professor at the Air Force Institute of Technology. Prior to this, we worked in industry supporting a variety of airborne magnetometry programs. He obtained his Ph.D. in physics from the University of Maryland studying magnetic effects in superconductors. Dr. Nielsen’s current research interests focus on magnetic anomaly navigation and other alternative navigation techniques.

Rick Saltus

NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information

Dr. Rick Saltus is a senior research scientist at the Cooperative Institute for Research in the Environmental Sciences at the University of Colorado. He works on geomagnetic data and research in affiliation with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Agency. His specialty is the compilation, curation and interpretation of crustal magnetic anomalies. He obtained his Ph.D. in Geophysics from Stanford University studying the geologic and tectonic implications of heat flow, gravity, and magnetic anomaly data in the western U.S. Dr. Saltus’ current research interests focus on the development of magnetic maps and models in support of alternative navigation.
